Game Recap - In a game that pitted 14 players,
there was plenty of action to go around. Athletics pitcher Tom Tierney got things rolling in the first inning on the mound.
It was a wild first inning for Tom, but he eventually settled in allowing only one run. Tom finished the day only allowing
five runs on two hits, which is something to be happy about. The only problem was his control. He issued six free passes,
which is something he needs to work on before the season kicks off.
Nick Bove came in for relief and looked pretty good before allowing
a grand slam to Pirates Jesse Reksc. Jesse happened to hit two grand slams in the game. Kyle McKelvey also saw time on the
mound and looked fantastic. The Cardinals pitcher did not allow a run and struck out six.
Reliever Mike Saburro from the Athletics looked wild as well on the mound.
Mike allowed four walks and a grand slam before departing. Mike did do some damage though in the batters box, as he hit a
solo shot in the second inning off of starter Chris Hess. Hess pitched four solid innings allowing only that solo HR to Saburro
while striking out 10.
Pirates Jesse Reksc and Nick Sutter had serious control problems allowing
a combined 14 walks. These two guys are a vital part of their teams pitching staff and if they cannot control their
walk total it could be a long year. Omar also came in and pitched 2/3 thirds of decent work. He looks to make a
case for the Angels closer.
